The 15th edition of the Asia Cup will be held in the UAE, with Sri Lanka retaining their hosting rights.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed that the Asia Cup will be held in the UAE instead of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka will still have the opportunity to host the Asia Cup at a later date.

The Asia Cup 2022 will be held from August 27 to September 11, 2022.

Reason for Change of Asia Cup Venue From Sri Lanka To United Arab Emirates

The ACC has announced that, due to the current situation in Sri Lanka, the Asia Cup will be relocated to the UAE. The decision to change the venue was difficult but necessary.

ACC President Jay Shah said that the decision to shift the venue of the Asia Cup to the UAE was taken after much deliberation. He confirmed that the Asia Cup is still an important event for preparing Asian nations for the ICC World Cup, and thanked the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and Emirates Cricket Board for their understanding and cooperation.

Asia Cup 2022 Highlights

  • The Asia Cup 2022 will be the 15th edition of the Asia Cup Cricket tournament.
  • The Asian countries will play in the T20 format in the United Arab Emirates between August and September 2022.
  • It was supposed to happen in September 2020 but got pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then it was rescheduled to happen in Sri Lanka in June 2021 but got postponed again.
  • The 2022 edition of the ACC tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan but has since been moved to Sri Lanka. Pakistan will now host the 2023 edition.
  • The Asia Cup was last played in 2018 and India is the defending champion.
  • Nine teams will participate, with four playing in a qualifying round namely UAE, Singapore, Kuwait and Hong Kong. The winner of that round will join the others in the main tournament.
