At Estadio da Luz, Benfica overcame a late scare to win all three points and advance to the Round of 16. Still, Juventus lost after failing to reach for the first time since 2013.
Lisbon’s hosts got off to a terrific start. When Benfica advanced, they had the majority of possession and appeared dangerous.
After 17 minutes, Enzo Fernandez’s team took the lead thanks to Antonio Silva, 18 years old, becoming Benfica’s second-youngest striker in the Champions League, behind Goncalo Guedes.
Dusan Vlahovic headed the ball goalward after a corner, and Moise Kean added the finishing touch to tie the score for Juventus against the odds.
This did not last long, as Joao Mario was on hand to score Benfica’s next goal when the team earned a penalty after Cuadrado handled the ball.
Ten minutes before halftime, Rafa Silva scored his first game goal with a daring flip following a superb pass from Joao Mario.
Then, five minutes after the half, Rafa came through once more, slipping the ball past Szczesny in goal to make it 4-1 and appear to end the game.
That is until Juventus signed young Englishman Samuel Iling Jr. He significantly changed the situation for the Italian side, which had until this time appeared to be dead and buried.
The former Chelsea youth player assisted Milik to make it 4-2 and contributed significantly to Juventus’ goal through Weston McKennie just one minute later.
Benfica, however, maintained their slim lead, so they moved on to the knockout rounds. As a result, Juventus has exited the competition, but if they place third, they could move up to the UEFA Europa League.

It’s spectacular what Roger Schmidt is accomplishing for Benfica. The former PSV boss has yet to suffer a defeat in all leagues.
With nine victories and one tie in their first ten games, the Lisbon club presently leads the Primeira Liga by six points.
They’ve defeated Maccabi Haifa on both occasions, beat Juventus once, and achieved what few teams in Europe could by keeping Paris Saint-Germain to draws both at home and away in the UEFA Champions League.
Benfica has gone 20 games without a loss overall, and they will be a match for anybody they face in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages this year.

For Benfica, Rafa Silva, the 29-year-old, was outstanding. He moved about the front three all night, making the Juventus defense work hard.
His first evening attempt was a spectacular flick to complete a move he had begun. His subsequent move was a bold clip over Szczesny.
The former Portugal international’s sole disappointment is that he was denied a hat-trick, especially after rattling the post four minutes later.
Nevertheless, another spectacular performance took place by a player in top form.
