Brentford vs Liverpool Highlights: Liverpool crashed by Brentford 3-1 as a series of defensive mistakes damaged their bid for a top 4 finish in Premier League.
Brentford vs Liverpool Highlights | Premier League Highlights
Brentford added another fantastic chapter to their Premier League points table after defeating Liverpool for the first time since 1938. It was a remarkable 3-1 victory credit to goals from Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo and an own goal from Ibrahima Konate.
Despite Thomas Frank’s upbeat comments yesterday, Ivan Toney is not a part of Brentford’s matchday squad. Brentford news, Josh Dasilva has benched in favor of Yoane Wissa and Vitaly Yanelt, who start.
For Liverpool, Kostas Tsimikas replaces Andy Robertson as left-back, and Ibrahima Konate takes Joel Matip’s spot in the middle of the defense. Fabinho has brought in for Jordan Henderson, who is out with a concussion. Cody Gakpo, a recent addition, is missing from the roster for Liverpool’s actual games.
Liverpool trudges off for halftime, trailing by two goals while having a terrible defense and producing very little up forward, save for one excellent opportunity that Darwin Nunez wasted. At a corner, Ibrahima Konate of Brentford unintentionally allowed the ball to rebound off his shin and past his goaltender. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa had two more “goals” correctly ruled offside disallowed, but he never gave up. He scored a worthy goal on the third attempt by using his head to direct the ball beyond Alisson instead of letting it drop.
Jurgen Klopp’s team had an opportunity to react shortly after the break, with credit to Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain. Still, Brentford returned with a third goal from Bryan Mbeumo, earning them a historic victory and putting them up to seventh place in the rankings with 26 points from 18 games. On the other hand, Liverpool concluded the day in 6th place, 15 points behind Premier League leader Arsenal but two points ahead of Brentford.

Brentford Exploits Liverpool’s Defensive Weaknesses
Even though the damage had already been done, angry Klopp decided to switch out Van Dijk at halftime in favor of a back three to overturn a 2-0 score.
Liverpool’s defensive flaws were exposed when they faced a Brentford team that, in the absence of their leading scorer Ivan Toney, tore the Reds’ shaky defense to pieces with their incisive counterattacking tactics.
As Mbeumo’s corner slipped past Alisson at his nearby pole via the shin of the France international, Konate’s own goal was the lucky break they required. This was the first time Brentford had helped from own goal in 28 home Premier League games.
The first half was particularly dominant, with wide deliveries continuing to create havoc. Brentford-Wissa had the ball in the net two times before his third attempt stood, smashing a magnificent header just over the line from Jensen’s delivery. Even though Liverpool objected, Stuart Attwell’s wristwatch indicated that the ball had crossed the line.
Nunez, who has missed more “big chances” (15) than any other player in the division this season, appeared to have cut the deficit shortly after the break when he outmuscled Raya in a one-on-one. The unfortunate Uruguayan has wasted more chances in front of the goal than any other player this year. Darwin lost us opportunities, Klopp said after the game.
Moments later, Oxlade-Chamberlain made a move, but Mbeumo ultimately won the game by edging Konate to score his fourth goal.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank said, “It’s up there” regarding the most satisfying victories of his four-year tenure. Brentford can now add their victory over Liverpool to their shocking 4-0 win over Manchester United in August and their 2-1 victory at champions Manchester City in November.
