The Indian cricket team presented the new T20 World Cup Jersey ahead of the tournament on Sunday. MPL Sports, the company that created the new T20 shirt, has made it available for pre-order on its website.

In a slight departure from the recent darker blue jerseys, this one has a lighter shade that may remind fans of vintage jerseys.

The India cricket team jersey has changed dramatically throughout the years. From the iconic 2003 World Cup jersey, which had the tricolour painted from the bottom to the centre of the jersey with dark blue lines on the sides, to the 2011 jersey, which was halfway between light and dark with the tricolour stripes on both sides.

The newer jerseys, released in 2020 and 2021, pay homage to the Oxford Blue 1992 jersey and are nearly identical, save for a few minor tweaks here and there.

Keeping with tradition, the BCCI unveiled India’s new T20 World Cup jersey on Sunday, along with home jerseys for the Australian and South African series. In a slight departure from the recent darker blue jerseys, this one has a lighter shade that may remind fans of vintage jerseys.

On October 23, India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan.

However, before the World Cup, India will play Australia in a three-match Twenty20 International series beginning on Tuesday. Captain Rohit Sharma stated on Sunday, ahead of the first T20I, that Virat Kohli will be a backup opener, while KL Rahul will open with him at the T20 World Cup. He also stated that leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was unlucky to be left out because he desired R Ashwin, who adds a different dimension to the team’s balance.

“In the T20 World Cup, KL Rahul will open for us.”

We’re not going to play with that position very much. There is a tendency to overlook his performances. “He is a crucial player for India,” Rohit told reporters in Mohali.

“It is always nice to have options available for you, especially if you are going into a tournament like the T20 World Cup,”

he said of Virat Kohli as an opening option. So it’s an option for us, and he can open because we didn’t take the third opener.”

The New T20 World Cup Jersey

New jerseys worn by Team India during the Asia Cup 2022 are lighter in colour than those worn during the 2007 T20 World Cup. Since MPL took over as the kit sponsor in 2020, this is the third Indian jersey in many years.

As reported, India will play with Australia in a 3-match T20 International series starting on September 20th (Tuesday) at Mohali. After a disappointing performance in the 2022 T20 Asia Cup, the Men in Blue will be looking to rebound before Australia’s all-important T20 World Cup.

However, the home team has suffered a setback after senior pacer Mohammed Shami tested positive for Covid-19. As a consequence, the selection committee picked Umesh Yadav, as his replacement for the next matches. Meanwhile, senior pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have made their comeback from the Asia Cup.

In the Australian camp, the visiting team has named talented batter Tim David to their squad, and the right-handed batsman will play a crucial role during his team’s death overs. Skipper Aaron Finch, currently in a slump, will also want to get some runs in before the T20 World Cup.
