Croatia vs Canada Highlights – FIFA World Cup 2022

Just two minutes into the game, Canada scored their first-ever World Cup goal, but Les Rouge will have expected much more after falling far short of hopes of exiting the tournament in Qatar.

Even though John Herdman predicted before the game that Canada would “Spoil Croatia” and try to go past the group stage, the 2018 World Cup champions were too good, winning 4-1 behind a pair of goals from Andrej Kramaric.

The outcome effectively eliminated Herdman’s team, with Canada having collected no points after two games. Given that the Canadians have soundly defeated, the squandered opportunities against Belgium feel like even more of a colossal missed opportunity.

Morocco, who earlier in the day shocked Belgium, is ahead of Croatia in Group F on goal differential.

Although Luka Modric and the company have yet to qualify for the knockout round, a draw against Belgium in the final game would be sufficient.

With Davies’s speed and cunning, the Canadians were slicing through the Croatian midfield, giving the opponents nightmares. Although Croatia struggled in the first half, they gradually found their stride. After 26 minutes, they had the ball in the net through Kramaric, but the linesman’s flag ended their celebrations, giving Canada a brief reprieve.

In the 36th minute, Croatia equalized when Kramaric scored on a first-time effort into the far corner after Ivan Perisic, a growing force on the left, pushed the ball through to him. Eight minutes later, they took the lead when Livaja finished a beautiful move from the back by blasting low and right from the edge of the box. To regain the initiative, Herdman made substitutions at halftime, and soon after the restart, Jonathan Osorio, one of those adjustments, curled a shot just wide.

While Canada came near once more when Dominik Livakovic expertly flicked Jonathan David’s attempt over, Kramaric had his attempt well saved. However, in the 70th minute, Kramaric controlled Perisic’s cross on the left, who moved the ball to his left foot and sent it too low into the bottom corner, destroying their dreams of coming back into the game.

Croatia scored a final punch deep into stoppage time when Mislav Orsic broke free and selflessly squared for Majer to score.

After two minutes, Canada’s big moment eventually occurred. In their opening match, Davies had a penalty saved against Belgium, but he wasn’t denied again as he rose in the box to head in Taejon Buchanan’s cross for the World Cup’s quickest goal to date.

After their tie with Morocco, Croatia’s stamina has called into doubt, but they used their expertise to turn the game around before the half.

On minute 37, Kramaric was the first to score, latching onto a deft reverse pass from Ivan Perisic and squeezing the ball into the far side net from a tight angle. Then, after receiving a feed from Josip Juranovic, Livaja scored just before halftime with a low, precise shot from the edge of the box that went inside the near post.

Kramaric added a second goal to put the outcome beyond question in the 70th minute. He deflected a Perisic cross into his goal area with a deft touch.

In stoppage time, Kamal Miller made a mistake that gave Mislav Orsic a clear shot at goal. Orsic then squared the ball to Majer, who rolled the ball into an empty net.

Man Of The Match – Andrej Kramaric

For his contribution to the win, Andrej Kramaric received the man of the match award and said:

“For the inspiration, I want to thank the Canada coach for the motivation. Croatia ultimately proved who eff’d who.”

Croatia vs Canada | What does the result mean?

Croatia now leads Group F on goal differential over Morocco, who earlier in the day defeated Belgium 2-0. These two teams each have four points, while Belgium has three.

Canada is last in the group, has no points, and cannot advance.

Herdman: “We proved that we can contend

“I believe we proved to the world in those first 25 minutes that little old Canada can hold its own against the greatest. We successfully competed.”

“We have a crucial matchup against Morocco, one that is crucial for Canada because there is so much at stake. We came here to make history, and in the first game, they proved their mettle by displaying their fearlessness.”

“In the second game, they declared their desire to score goals, yet, we would not have received three points even if they had been enough to win. Therefore, Canada needs to succeed in this final game.”

Canada’s historic World Cup journey can give it hope

The first World Cup for Canada in 36 years ended early, but John Herdman’s team’s performances in Qatar will give Canadians optimism that they won’t have to wait more than 25 years for the next one.

After losing to Belgium by a very slim margin in their Group F opener earlier in the week, they made a strong start against Croatia and unexpectedly took the lead after just two minutes.

There was little surprise that top player Alphonso Davies scored the team’s first-ever goal at a World Cup finals.

The team that started the match ranked 41st in the world—Croatia, of course—looked nervous but gained confidence as the minutes passed. But, in the end, they proved too powerful, too experienced, and too much of a hurdle for the team.

Herdman had expressed confidence in his team’s ability to “F’ Croatia” before the match, which appeared to motivate the Europeans more. After the final horn, Andrej Kramaric, a two-goal scorer, said: “In the end, Croatia demonstrated who F’d whom.”

Herdman and Canada will undoubtedly benefit from this experience as they want to continue competing on the global stage. In addition, there may be a lesson to learn about picking your battles correctly.
