England vs Senegal highlights | FIFA World Cup 2022
England defeated Senegal 3-0 to go to the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals despite a sluggish start. The outcome sets up the two European heavyweights’ first-ever knockout round encounter at a World Cup with France, who overcame Poland 3-1 earlier in the day.
Much has been said of Gareth Southgate’s selection dilemma in the lead-up to the game, and Bukayo Saka has won the contest to start on the right wing, leaving Marcus Rashford out. Raheem Sterling missed the game as well because of an unidentified situation. However, the Three Lions appear unaltered, with Kyle Walker continuing to play right back and Jordan Henderson keeping his position in midfield. In the Senegal midfield, Nampalys Mendy replaces Gueye, while Krepin Diatta, who started the first game despite missing time with an injury, takes Gueye’s position.
After England’s defense carelessly gave the ball away just beyond the half-hour mark, Senegal striker Boulaye Dia, who looked dangerous on the break, forced Jordan Pickford into a tremendous one-handed stop.
After numerous early failures, England scored its first goal late in the first half. Jordan Henderson’s 38th minute gave them the lead. From the depths, Harry Kane rescued Bellingham. Bellingham played the defense for a while before cutting it back into the penalty area. Henderson, assisted by his midfield teammate on the right, then sent the ball below Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and into the goal. After shooting a Bukayo Saka pass wide, Harry Kane wasted his opportunity for an extension moments later.
Harry Kane increased the advantage with the final kick of the 1st half. Bellingham recovers a misplaced ball in their half, leading to an England counterattack. He passed to Foden on the left, who then fed an unguarded Harry Kane outside the Senegal box on the right. The England captain scored the game’s first goal in Qatar by blasting the ball past goalkeeper Mendy. The last kick of the first half was when the goal was scored.
After the break, England kept up their position in the match. England led 3-0 after Bukayo Saka scored his third competition goal. After Phil Foden sent an outstanding cross into the penalty area from the left, Saka noticed goalkeeper Mendy running out towards the six-yard box line. From a distance of 10 yards, Saka coolly dinked the ball over the goaltender.
With 12 goals scored so far in Qatar, the Three Lions have matched their semi-final World Cup goal total from Russia in 2018. They scored 11 points to win the world championship in 1966. As a result, England’s team has reached the quarterfinals and will play France on December 10.

Keane: Excellent England should be confident
“It was fantastic. They weren’t at their best in the first half, but in the second, they were pressured to focus and not concede a goal. Thus we won 3-0.
Senegal wasn’t overly affected physically or emotionally and should have plenty of confidence for the weekend. Despite all his criticism, Gareth gets a lot of his judgments.
“Again, the manager deserves praise. He makes advancing to the tournament’s later rounds appear very simple.
“Since three or four years ago, they haven’t done anything wrong. Of course, the management and the players had difficulty getting into the competition, but they are now performing well.
“What a major matchup it will be on Saturday versus France. They merit this kind of contest on this level.”
