Steven Gerrard Was Fired as Aston Villa Manager Following Fulham’s Easy Victory at Craven Cottage.

Gerrard departs the Midlands club in 17th position, tied on points with Wolves in 18th place but ahead in goals scored.

Harrison Reed put the home team ahead after Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez pushed a corner into the midfielder’s path.

In the Fulham vs Aston Villa game, Fulham controlled the first half, with Andreas Pereira going close twice and Aleksandar Mitrovic having a far-post header hacked off the line by Tyrone Mings.

Mitrovic doubled the home side’s lead from the spot after the striker’s shot struck Matty Cash on the arm. Martinez got both hands on Mitrovic’s attempt but couldn’t keep it out.

Mings increased the visitors’ agony when he deflected Neeskens Kebano’s low cross into his net – a goal met with cries of “Steven Gerrard, get out of our club” from portions of the away end.

After booing their players off the field during Sunday’s home defeat by Chelsea, Villa fans made their displeasure known again when the visitors walked off the Craven Cottage ground at half-time and later in the game.

Following Mings’ own goal, which capped a frantic display by the away side in west London, cries of “You’re getting dismissed in the morning” resonated around the field.

Only Mings’ goal-line clearing and Martinez’s excellent saves kept the score down in the first half.

It might have been far worse for Villa, who gave Marco Silva’s squad far too much room in the final third, notably down Fulham’s left flank, while providing nothing in terms of attacking danger.

Following Luiz’s departure, the decision to replace striker Danny Ings with Leander Dendoncker has received scorn from the away fans, many of whom chanted “we want Gerrard out” towards the Villa dugout.

Before the game, former Liverpool and England captain Gerrard stated that his team was “a lot closer to where we want to be” in terms of performance standards – but Thursday’s setback was one too many for the Villa management.

Fulham vs Aston Villa | Fulham Returns To Winning Ways in Style

Silva cut a furious figure following Fulham’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

His only criticism of the Cottagers’ first-half performance here will be that it should have delivered more than Reed’s well-taken opening.

Former Chelsea and Arsenal winger Willian, who has returned to the Fulham squad after returning from injury against Bournemouth, was especially active in the opening minutes as the hosts dominated.

Before fizzing a low pass across the penalty area that escaped everyone inside the box, the Brazilian had a furious attempt stopped by Martinez’s foot.

Pereira then had two magnificent long-range attempts deflected off target before Mings denied Mitrovic.

Mitrovic’s penalty and Mings’ late own goal rounded up the scoring for the hosts, who ended a three-game losing streak in the league.

The victory is Fulham’s most excellent in the Premier League in nine years, dating back to a 4-1 win over Crystal Palace in the 2013-14 season.
