Ind vs SL 2nd T20 Highlights: Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel’s brave efforts were in vain as Sri Lanka won by 16 runs in Pune to even the three-match series.

Ind vs SL 2nd T20 Highlights

With a 16-run victory in Pune, Sri Lanka evened the series. Dasun Shanaka was the deciding factor. India, chasing 207, was all but out at 57/5 when Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel hit fifty-plus scores to keep India in the game.

Shivam Mavi also made a brief appearance, but Shanaka remained composed in the last over. The SL captain also hit 56 runs off 22 balls, and Mendis added 50 runs to assist SL in amassing a significant total.

India went hard early to set a record total, but the strategy backfired following another top-order collapse. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill were out in the first over of the innings, making Kasun Rajitha look impressive. First-time player Rahul Tripathi got things going with a boundary but has been removed by Madushanka.

Before Chamika Karunaratne dismissed Hardik Pandya, he had played a few attacking shots. When Deepak Hooda went up to bat, India was 34/4. Before Hooda mishandled a pull off Hasaranga to Dhananjaya de Silva, the hosts had calmed down and played out overs. India was 64/5 at the midway point when Axar Patel entered the batting order, needing more than 14 runs per over.

The left-hander threw down a barrage of blows, effortlessly scooping up boundaries. The ball was being banged around up until that point when Suryakumar Yadav started playing his signature strokes. When Axar hit a hat-trick of sixes against Hasaranga to create India’s comeback, the Men in Blue still needed 109 to win off 42 balls. India scored 26 runs from the over due to a superb over-the-ropes catch by Suryakumar.

Axar, who had a career-high 31 points in the previous game, quickly surpassed that total by scoring his first 50 runs in just 20 balls. Surya needed 33 deliveries to attain his goal. Only Madushanka’s 51-run strike against Surya gave India the advantage they appeared to be gaining.

Although Shivam Mavi made a few lovely strokes, the target proved too much. With India needing 21, Shanaka delivered the final over. In Pune, SL cruised to a 16-run victory after Axar was out off the third ball.

Earlier, skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bat first, going against the consensus of the experts. However, Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Mavi surpassing helped Sri Lanka get a fast start on a pitch that favors teams batting first. Then, as Kusal Mendis caught his eye, Arshdeep bowled a hat-trick of no-balls.

Mendis played his variety of strokes, sending the Indian pacers all over the ground while Nissanka labored. Arshdeep has dismissed for 19, Mavi gave up 24 runs off his first two overs, and Umran was not wanted. Kusal needed 27 balls to reach fifty as Sri Lanka amassed 80 runs in the first eight overs.

Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal, two Indian spinners, led the country’s resurgence. First, Chahal scored when a well-positioned Mendis was LBW dismissed.

Then, Bhanuka Rajapaksa has defeated by Umran, and Dhananjaya de Silva was no match for Axar Patel. However, Nissanka persisted in her struggle and eventually survived for 33.

Dasun Shanaka caught his eye as Charith Asalanka started the bowl with four sixes. Then, Asalanka and Hasaranga have caught by Umran off successive balls. At the very end, though, Shanaka added more runs. Finally, the Sri Lankan captain was caught by Arshdeep Singh, but it ruled another no-ball.

On a disappointing day, the left-arm pacer bowled five no-balls, a regrettable record. As SL reached 206/6, Mavi gave up 20 after the final over. Shanaka became the first Sri Lankan to reach fifty in 20 balls.

Sri Lanka team captain Shanaka | Player of the Match

I think so, we could’ve done well in the middle part. The openers set the game. You need to play well in the middle to allow finishers to do well. It’s not the dew factor; it’s the skill of Indian batters.

They took the game away from us but still managed to hold their nerve. Good to defend the total, especially against India in these conditions.

Player of the Match – Shanaka

Indian team T20 Captain | Hardik Pandya

Both bowling and batting – powerplay hurt us. We made basic errors which we shouldn’t do at this level. Learning should be the basics we can control. You can have a bad day but shouldn’t be going away from basics.

In this situation, it’s very difficult. In the past as well, he’s bowled no-balls. It’s not about blaming, but no ball is a crime. Surya had a fantastic run at four.
