Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta confirmed Bumrah’s exclusion from India’s T20 World Cup squad.
“Bumrah has been ruled out from the World Cup.” “Shami/Siraj are likely replacements for Jasprit Bumrah,” Gupta tweeted.
Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of India’s first Twenty20 International against South Africa on Wednesday after complaining of a back injury during a practice session the day before.
Due to a back injury, the right-arm pacer had already missed the Asia Cup 2022.
He has named India’s T20 World Cup squad and the home series against Australia and South Africa.
There are less than three weeks until the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia, and the Indian team has already suffered a significant setback.
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s premier fast bowler, is expected to miss the Twenty20 World Cup due to a back injury.
Bumrah will be unable to compete in the Twenty20 World Cup. His back injury is critical.
The damage could keep him out of action for six months, according to a senior Official of the BCCI, though the ‘BCCI’ has not made an official announcement.
Bumrah missed the Asia Cup Twenty20 in the United Arab Emirates earlier this month due to a back injury.
He was declared fit by the BCCI medical team after receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
As a result, he rejoined the Indian team for the Twenty20 series against Australia. He appeared in the series’ second and third matches.
Bumrah could not play in the first Twenty20 match against South Africa on Wednesday in Thiruvananthapuram.
During India’s practice session on Tuesday, Bumrah complained of back pain. Before the first match, the BCCI tweeted, “He is under the care of the BCCI medical team.”
Before Bumrah’s injury, it was clear that India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja would also miss the Twenty20 World Cup.
“We took precautions so that Bumrah does not feel too much stress. So we avoided playing him in the Asia Cup, and now there is a question whether he is fit to play in the series against Australia,” said a BCCI official.
Siraj, Shami, or Chahar?
Fast bowlers Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar have been named reserve players in the Indian team for the Twenty20 World Cup, and with Bumrah out, one of these could get a spot in the leading group.
It has been reported that the Indian team might also consider Mohammad Siraj.
There's no need for Surgery!
Although Bumrah will not require surgery, he will be out for an extended period. Bumrah appeared in all 14 ‘IPL’ league matches in 2022.
He has only played five Tests, five ODIs, and five Twenty20 matches in international cricket. Bumrah hasn’t played many games this season.
He sat out the Asia Cup, the West Indies tour, and some bilateral series in India. So he got enough rest,” said a BCCI official.
Bumrah will now return to the ‘NCA’ to receive treatment for the injury, and he may be out for a long time, according to a BCCI official.
