The Mumbai City FC defense often stymied the Blasters’ offense.
Phurba Lachenpa quickly stopped Sahal Abdul Samad’s shot from a tight angle before Rahul KP’s timid volley missed the target in the 33rd minute.
Adrian Luna attempted a strong, swerving free-kick three minutes later, but Lachenpa parried the shot to safety.
In the second half, Kerala Blasters FC upped the ante. The hosts were able to force the Islanders into their half despite a barrage of Blasters attacks on Mumbai City’s defense.
After the goalkeeper deflected Dimitrios Diamantakos’ low attempt, Jeakson Singh’s header from the subsequent corner was just wide in the 57th minute.
Luna’s attempt from within the box hit the post before falling at Jessel Carneiro’s feet as the game drew closer to the conclusion.
Rahul KP headed the ball wide after the full-back corrected his feet and delivered the ball across the goal to him. Mumbai City FC was forced into its half by the Blasters, but they could not score in the 18-yard box.
