Liverpool finished their midseason training camp with a 4-1 victory over Milan, credit to two goals from Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan came off the bench to ensure a straightforward victory for the Reds, who were already ahead by goals from Mohamed Salah and Thiago Alcantara at the time of his entrance.

Alexis Saelemaekers had earlier offset the first of them for Milan. Still, the team struggled throughout the game and could only muster a 4-3 victory in the shootout to show their efforts.

The Italians could not avoid finishing last in the Dubai Super Cup rankings credit to their opponents, who moved up to third place behind Lyon and Arsenal.

The confidence boost provided by four goals and a good performance will be Liverpool’s main takeaway from the events at Al Maktoum Stadium in advance of next Thursday’s League Cup trip.

Nunez receives much-required support in Dubai Super Cup, Liverpool vs Milan

Nunez was undoubtedly the player that Liverpool would have lamented losing the most to the World Cup.

After a rocky start to his Anfield career, the Uruguayan was beginning to show why Benfica paid £85 million for him after scoring seven goals in 10 outings before the break.

Therefore, traveling to Qatar to play three scoreless games that resulted in two losses and a tie did not feel like the best course for him to continue building his confidence.

Thankfully, the 23-year-old didn’t let his limited time with his country impact him here; instead, he calmly scored two goals to continue where he left off efficiently.

Youngsters Strike once again in Friendly Game at Dubai Super Cup

The EFL Cup victory over a seasoned Derby County team early last month was the first time Liverpool’s young players had proven their worth.

But in this one, they grabbed a rare first-team opportunity with both hands, seemingly eager to show that it was not an isolated incident.

After coming off the bench, Nunez received assists from Bobby Clark and Ben Doak, the former with a particularly eye-catching curling through-ball.

With a calm midfield display, Stefan Bajcetic demonstrated why Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff hold him in such high regard.

The reds are excited about the young players now signed to the club’s roster.

A powerful squad to take against Manchester City in Friendly Game

Klopp has given a significant indication regarding his starting XI vs Manchester City with just one change from the defeat to Lyon.

Salah, Roberto Firmino, Joel Matip, and Thiago Alcantara all appear destined to start after starting both friendlies in Dubai.

Since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabio Carvalho have alternated starting on the left side during these games, that is the only area of contention.

Whatever Klopp decides, Liverpool should make sure to have a team capable of defeating a City squad that is most likely more depleted due to the World Cup.

Jürgen Klopp made one adjustment to his starting lineup from his team’s previous game in Dubai, placing Nunez on the bench.

The Uruguayan, who had returned from World Cup duty earlier in the week, was once again one of the replacements.

The only change to the starting lineup used to face Olympique Lyonnais was the substitution of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for Fabio Carvalho.

  • 5th min Goal – Sadly for the present Liverpool supporters, the Milan team does not include Divock Origi in its lineup.
  • Joel Matip enters the field from defense, moves into midfield, and keeps moving forward before passing to Roberto Firmino and setting up Mohamed Salah for an easy goal. That objective is excellent.

  • 29th min Goal – Milan equalizes when a crossfield pass finds Saelemaekers on the right side, where he cuts in easily and shoots with his left foot into the bottom corner.
  • 41st min: Goal – At the edge of the box, Firmino competes for the ball, which, somewhat fortuitously, falls into the path of his Spanish colleague.
  • The subsequent touch and finish, however, is anything but fortunate. Thiago took control in a split second before launching a solid shot into the bottom corner with hardly any backlift.

  • 82nd min: Goal – The Uruguayan finishes calmly in a head-to-head match, but Bobby Clark’s pass to let him through was an incredible display of skill. Outstanding performance from the youngster.
  • The goal at minute 88 – Doak’s cameo may not have resulted in a goal, but he does have an assist. He does this by bursting in from behind down the right and picking out a whipping, low cross that Nunez then passes into the goal. Milan win the penalty shootout 4-3
