Puneri Paltan overcame the tenacious Tamil Thalaivas, a first-half deficit, and injured raiders to earn a spot in their first-ever live Pro Kabaddi League championship. At the Dome, NSCI SVP Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, the Puneri Paltan won the game 39-37 credit to the performances of Pankaj Mohite (16 points) and Mohammad Nabibakhsh (6 points).

Early on in this one, it appeared that the two teams would play a close game. But that was before the Thalaivas defense awoke and took control of the match. Soon, when the Paltan stumbled, the raids of Narender and Ajinkya Pawar were supported by some outstanding defense.

When the first all-out did come, the Thalaivas roared into a 15-11 lead after it took the Paltan numerous super tackles to stop what would have been an early all-out. Now that they had coordinated and were in command, the Thalaivas took over the game.

Despite losing some players to some excellent raids by Pankaj Mohite, they came up with some super tackles to make sure they didn’t lose the game outright. Thalaivas led the teams 21-15 going into the break despite having less players on the court.

Paltan came out in the second half prepared to launch an immediate all-out assault to gain momentum. However, it was challenging for them to compete against a tough, tenacious Thalaivas unit while playing without their two lead raiders. To make it a one-point game, Mohammad Nabibakhsh’s cunning and genius were required to assist them in getting their own first all-out.

In the final ten minutes, the gap between the two teams never exceeded two points because they continually traded points and engaged in a high-caliber tactical struggle. Five minutes remained in the game, and Mohite had scored all 10 of his team’s points, leaving the score at 30-30.

During that crucial final minutes, Paltan captain Fazel Atrachali came alive, making both game-winning tackles at essential moments and taking out Ajinkya Pawar. The Paltan obtained their second all-out of the game with just three minutes remaining to grab a 36-30 advantage. They held the Thalaivas at arm’s length to intelligently finish the game and advance to the final thanks to an advantage they never gave up.
