UAE Women’s Cricket Team News and History

The United Arab Emirates women’s national cricket team represents the United Arab Emirates in international women’s cricket and is organized by the Emirates Cricket Board.

In July 2007, the UAE Women’s team made their international debut in the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Women’s Tournament, which was played in Malaysia.

It made its debut overseas during the ACC Women’s Tournament in Malaysia in 2007. In its first match against Bangladesh, which lasted an hour, it was bowled out for nine runs, losing all three of its games.

UAE defeated Oman by 49 runs in their debut international game at the 2009 ACC Women’s Twenty20 Championship. Additionally, the squad overcame Iran in a play-off to place seventh overall after finishing fourth in its six-team group and fourth in Kuwait.

It finished ninth out of 10 teams at the 2011 ACC Women’s Twenty20 Championship and won two games. The squad finished 10th out of 11 teams at the 2013 ACC Women’s Championship in Thailand after failing to win a single game. The Gulf Cricket Council (GCC) Women’s Twenty20 Championship was contested in Qatar in 2015 and Oman in 2014, with the UAE winning both competitions.

The Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder, two sides from Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), visited the UAE for a training camp in June 2016. Three UAE national team players (Natasha Michael, Chaya Mughal, and Esha Oza) joined them for a Twenty20 exhibition game at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Dubai where they filled in for injured players.

All of the Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) members received full WT20I status from the ICC in April 2018. Therefore, starting on July 1, 2018, every Twenty20 game between the United Arab Emirates and a different international team will be a full WT20I.

UAE was included in the regional group for the 2021 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia along with seven other countries.
